MUSCAT: The charter aviation sector generated more than RO 30 million in economic returns during the 2025 tourist season in the Sultanate of Oman, according to the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism.

The revenue figure covers spending related to accommodation, transportation and tourist excursions, excluding airport-related charges such as aircraft landing, parking and refuelling fees.

Abdullah bin Saif al Saadi, Head of the Maritime and Air Tourism Department at the ministry, said the season witnessed the operation of 588 charter flights, reflecting strong growth in operational activity and rising demand for travel to Oman. Passenger numbers on charter flights during the same period reached around 93,000 travellers.

Al Saadi noted that the charter flight segment supports the ministry’s efforts to expand international tourism by diversifying source markets and attracting visitors from a broader range of countries. He added that the sector plays an important role in promoting Oman’s heritage sites and tourism destinations while contributing to higher hotel occupancy and stronger economic returns.

The Polish market ranked first among source markets for charter flights, followed by the Czech Republic and Italy. Promotional campaigns have also succeeded in attracting new markets such as Russia and Belarus.

The ministry is also encouraging investment in tourism infrastructure, particularly beachfront hotels, to meet the needs of charter flight travellers. In addition, efforts are continuing to upgrade tourism services and revitalise tourist destinations, while focusing on attracting higher-spending visitors and ensuring the sustainability of the sector. — ONA
