MUSCAT: The Royal Hospital has secured the platinum level of accreditation from Accreditation Canada International (ACI) for the second consecutive time in a significant achievement that reflects the hospital’s commitment to implementing the highest standards of quality and patient safety in accordance with global best practices.
The hospital achieved the gold level of accreditation in 2016 and 2019, and the platinum level in 2023, and is now repeating its achievement for the second consecutive time confirming the sustainability of its institutional performance and the progress of its clinical and administrative operations.
This positive evaluation followed a comprehensive evaluation process covering criteria such as clinical governance, risk management, patient safety, leadership effectiveness, continuity of care, continuous improvement, performance indicators, patient experience, integration of medical specialities and adherence to evidence-based standards.
Dr Amed bin Khamis al Araimi, Director-General of the Royal Hospital, said that this achievement is the result of the combined efforts of all medical, nursing, technical, and administrative staff, adding that a culture of quality has become an integral part of daily practice in the hospital.
He noted that renewing the platinum accreditation confirms that excellence is a sustainable institutional approach and that patient safety and the quality of healthcare are strategic priorities in all our clinical and operational processes.
He added that this achievement reflects the Royal Hospital’s ability to keep pace with international standards and enhances community confidence in the specialised and referral services it provides.
He pointed out that the hospital continues to develop its digital infrastructure, enhance the efficiency of its medical supply chains, improve the readiness of its specialised teams and expand its training and professional accreditation programmes, all of which support the sustainability of its performance and keep pace with the rapid transformations in the healthcare sector.
Dr Suad bint Salem al Ismaili, Senior Consultant in Pediatric Intensive Care and Director of the Quality and Patient Safety Department at the Royal Hospital, said that the accreditation came after thorough field reviews and evaluation meetings that included various departments and services.
She said that achieving the platinum level reflects the effectiveness of the quality and patient safety system, the hospital’s success in implementing evidence-based policies and procedures, promoting a culture of incident reporting and analysis, proactive risk management and engaging patients and their families as partners in the care journey.
She added that maintaining this level requires continued investment in digital transformation, clinical data analysis and regular performance measurement, in addition to supporting a work environment based on transparency, accountability and innovation.
This achievement confirms the Royal Hospital’s leading position as a national institution in specialised healthcare, its pivotal role in supporting the quality of healthcare services in Oman, and its progress towards sustainable institutional excellence. — ONA
