MUSCAT: Nizwa Club confirmed their status at the top of the Youth Basketball League 2025–26 standings after securing a deserved 70–52 victory over Seeb. The match was held at the secondary hall of Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher as part of the first preliminary round of the competition.
The win lifted Nizwa to the top of the overall standings with eight points, continuing their strong performances and underlining its determination to compete for the league title. Salalah dropped to second place with seven points, while Seeb sit fourth with five points.
Nizwa showed clear superiority from the opening moments of the game, entering the match with high focus and strong competitive spirit. The team succeeded in imposing its style of play through solid defensive organisation and quick offensive transitions that gave it the advantage for most of the game. Nizwa gradually built their lead across the first three quarters, benefiting from tactical discipline and offensive efficiency, making the task increasingly difficult for Seeb, who found themselves chasing the score early in the contest.
Several Nizwa players stood out and played key roles in securing the victory, most notably Nasser Ambusaidi, Muath Ambusaidi, Adam al Hinai and Niel al Idki. On the other side, Seeb attempted to keep pace with the match and saw notable contributions from Azhar al Bahlani, Abdulrahman al Maamari, Jeed al Kindi and Azzan al Ajmi. Still, their efforts were not enough to reduce Nizwa’s dominance.
STRONG IMPRESSION
Nizwa made a strong first-quarter impression, relying on early pressure and quick transitions from defence to offence, allowing the team to score 22 points compared to Seeb’s 16. The team maintained its advantage in the second quarter through effective spacing and balance between defence and attack, adding another 23 points while Seeb managed only 10, ending the first half with Nizwa leading 45–26.
In the third quarter, Seeb attempted to improve their offensive performance and reduce the gap, scoring 13 points. However, Nizwa remained composed and added 15 more points to extend their lead to 60–39 by the end of the period. In the fourth quarter, Seeb showed a stronger desire to get back into the game and improved both offensively and defensively, scoring 13 points. Nevertheless, Nizwa handled the pressure calmly, adding 10 more points to maintain their lead until the final whistle and secure a 70–52 victory.
The match was officiated by international referee Rashid al Meshaifri as first referee, Mazen al Hilali as second referee and Al Mahdi al Ameri as third referee. The scorers’ table included Huda al Hinai, Salem al Jadidi and Fatima al Harthy.
