MUSCAT: All eyes will be on the main hall of Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher this evening as Round Four of the second and decisive stage of the Oman First Division Handball League (2025/2026 season) gets underway. The round could significantly determine the team that secures direct qualification to the final, scheduled for the 15th of this month under the auspices of Mohsin bin Hani al Bahrani, Chairman of Al Amerat Club.
The highlight fixture sees league leaders Oman Club (6 points) face their closest challengers Muscat Club (4 points) at 11:30 pm in what promises to be a thrilling and evenly contested encounter. Earlier at 10:00 pm, Seeb (2 points) will take on bottom-placed Nizwa, who are yet to register a point.
BATTLE FOR THE TOP
Oman Club enter the clash in high spirits after securing three consecutive victories in this stage, most recently a commanding 42–29 win over Nizwa. Their consistent performances and balanced squad, blending experience with youthful energy, have placed them firmly at the top of the standings.
A victory tonight would move Oman a step closer to sealing direct qualification to the final without complicated permutations, The defending champions are also determined to retain their league crown after losing the Ministry Shield title earlier this season to Al Amerat, adding further motivation to their campaign.
Muscat, however, approach the encounter with renewed confidence following a crucial 23–21 victory over Seeb in the previous round. That result revived their hopes of direct qualification. A win tonight would see Muscat level on six points with Oman and dramatically reshape the title race, while defeat could push them toward a playoff scenario between second and third place. The match also carries a revenge element after Muscat fell to Oman by the same 23–21 scoreline earlier in this stage.
RENEWED HOPES
In the earlier fixture, Seeb aim to bounce back from their recent setback and keep their qualification hopes alive, with three rounds still remaining. Nizwa, meanwhile, are seeking their first win to restore pride and improve their standing.
Round Four is shaping up to be pivotal in the championship race, potentially clarifying the identity of the first finalist, or reigniting the competition ahead of the decisive closing rounds.
