The 23rd edition of the Ghazi Ramadan Tournament 2026 kicked off on Sunday evening with a remarkable note, as large crowds filled the indoor sports hall at the Sur Sports Complex, underlining the tournament’s prominent status as one of the governorate’s leading Ramadan sporting events.


The opening ceremony was held under the auspices of Dr Amer bin Nasser al Matani, CEO of the Development Foundation of Oman LNG, in the presence of officials, representatives of public and private entities, and supporting partners. The ceremony featured community oriented performances, including an impressive football skills display by a young talent from Sur, followed by an exhibition match for children that drew enthusiastic applause. In a symbolic gesture of encouragement, the patron stepped onto the court to greet and motivate the young players.


SUNDAY RESULTS


In the opening matches, Qalhat Healthy Village Initiative defeated Oman LNG 3–1, with goals from Ahmed al Shaibi, Munir al Shaibi and Rabie al Shaibi, while Oman LNG’s goal came via an own goal.


The Directorate of Education and the Vocational College played out a goalless draw (0–0).


Oman Post secured a 3–1 victory over Madayn, courtesy of two goals from Mazen al Hashemi and one from Saud al Farsi, while Abdulaziz al Araimi scored for Madayn.


Meanwhile, the Directorate of Endowments and Religious Affairs overcame Al Tali’a Club 2–0 through goals by Abdullah al Daoudi and Abdullah al Mukhaini.


GOAL FEST


In Monday's matches in Group 5, Sur Health City delivered an attacking masterclass to defeat Sur Hospital 7-3. Salim Said al Mukhaini netted a hat-trick, Mohammed Sayed Mahmoud scored twice, while Yousuf Mohammed Othman and Abdulkarim Faisal Hassan added one each. Khamis Hilal al Araimi scored twice and Abdulaziz Ali al Araimi added one for Sur Hospital.


Group 6 witnessed a dominant 10–3 victory for the Directorate of Labour over Sohar Bank. Salem al Salti struck four times, Mohammed al Rahbi added three, Mazen al Araimi scored twice and Saud al Rahbi contributed one. Musab al Qalahati, Mohammed al Farsi and Mazen al Masroori scored for Sohar Bank.


Group 7 ended in a balanced 2–2 draw between Omantel and the Directorate of Heritage and Tourism. Nawaf al Askari and Mahmoud al Alawi scored for Omantel, while Asim al Araimi netted both goals for Heritage and Tourism.


In Group 8, Al Oruba Club edged the Directorate of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion 3–2, with Salem al Mukhaini scoring twice alongside an own goal, while Abdullah al Musharafi scored both goals for his side.


Supported by Oman LNG and organised by the Directorate of Culture, Sports and Youth in Sur, the tournament continues to promote community engagement and sporting spirit during the holy month of Ramadan, setting the stage for an exciting and competitive edition.
