MUSCAT: The third edition of the Oman Down Syndrome Association ODSA Charity Golf Tournament concluded on Friday, at Ghala Golf Club, held in collaboration with the club in an inspiring sporting atmosphere that highlighted the values of social inclusion and community awareness of Down syndrome, while showcasing the abilities and talents of children with Down syndrome.


The tournament activities began and continued, attracting wide participation from international players, members of the national golf team and golfers from various clubs, adding strong competitiveness and diversity to the event.


A key highlight of the tournament was an exhibition match featuring children from the Oman Down Syndrome Association, presenting a powerful message of inclusion and empowerment through sport, for the first time in the tournament’s history, three additional disability focused associations took part, namely the Oman Autism Association, the Early Intervention Association and the Oman Association for the Hearing Impaired, reinforcing the concept of comprehensive inclusion in sporting events.

Players were divided into three groups according to the competition schedule, with the first group teeing off, followed by the second group and the third group, The day concluded with a competitive exhibition match, bringing together champions from the participating associations in a spirited and friendly contest.


In terms of results, the team comprising Azaan al Rumhy, Yusuf al Rumhy, Tharwat al Barwani and Zed claimed first place with a net score of 55.7. Second place went to Lance Scott, Michael Kuhn, Joe Watson and Kelly True with a net score of 57.1, while Mike Cuddihy, Douglas Hill, Liam Shanahan and Ewan Simpson secured third place with a net score of 58.8.


The tournament also featured on course competitions, with Devu winning the Nearest to the Pin NTP on Hole 2, Sabri al Mandhari on Hole 5, Lauren Johnston on Hole 12 and Mike Cuddihy on Hole 15 meanwhile, Josh Armstrongwon the Second Best Shot award on Hole 18.


The event concluded with a closing ceremony during which winners were honoured and sponsors recognised, reaffirming the vital role of sport in promoting social responsibility and fostering inclusion across all segments of society.
