SUHAR: The fourth edition of the Sohar Festival concluded on a high note, leaving widespread satisfaction among residents of Al Batinah North and reinforcing the festival’s reputation as one of Oman’s most significant cultural and community events.
With strong attendance, diverse programming, and measurable economic and social impact, the festival has successfully turned entertainment into a platform for national engagement and local pride.
This year’s festival featured more than 60 major events and 1,180 diverse programmes, attracting approximately 507,000 visitors from Oman and abroad.
Digital engagement also reached new heights, with over 11 million views across social media platforms, extending the festival’s impact far beyond Suhar.
Beyond entertainment, the festival generated tangible economic benefits, creating 416 part-time job opportunities and enabling the participation of 173 productive families through 177 small and medium enterprises. These outcomes boosted household incomes and encouraged entrepreneurship, linking cultural celebration with sustainable development.
Mohammed bin Sulaiman al Kindi, Governor of Al Batinah North, praised the collective effort behind the event, noting that the Sohar Festival has become “a national platform that goes beyond entertainment to directly engage with the community.”
He highlighted the high level of organisation, security, and cooperation among government bodies, private institutions, civil society organisations, and volunteers, emphasising the festival’s role in fostering social cohesion and local development.
Parents across the governorate expressed pride in the festival’s inclusive, family-friendly atmosphere. Ali al Hosni, a parent of two, described the festival as “a space where heritage meets modern life,” adding, “I felt reassured seeing my children engage with Omani traditions in a joyful and educational environment. The festival didn’t just entertain them — it connected them to their identity.”
Om Abbas al Ajmi from Al Khabourah emphasised the festival’s social impact: “The diversity of activities meant every family member found something meaningful. It brought us together and gave our children positive memories rooted in our culture.”
Khalid al Balushi, a father of three, lauded the festival’s organisation: “The facilities, lighting, parking and services showed clear planning. We felt comfortable staying for long hours, which families truly appreciate.”
Improvements to infrastructure, expanded walkways, enhanced lighting, increased parking and upgraded public facilities all contributed to a smooth visitor experience, allowing the festival to efficiently accommodate large crowds.
As the curtain falls on its fourth edition, the Sohar Festival stands as a symbol of collective success — celebrating culture, empowering communities and reflecting the genuine joy of Al Batinah North’s citizens.
