

The Consumer Protection Authority has warned agaisnt trading of counterfeit goods in local markets.
In a notification, it said Article (7) of the Consumer Protection Law states, “The trading of any adulterated, defective, counterfeit, or unauthorized goods is prohibited, and it is also prohibited to advertise such goods. The Executive Regulations shall specify what is considered adulterated, defective, or counterfeit.”
Article 7
It shall be prohibited to trade in any adulterated, corrupt, counterfeit commodities or any commodities that are not authorized for trading, and the same may not be advertised. The regulations shall determine what commodities shall be deemed as adulterated, corrupt, or counterfeit.
Any person in violation of Article 7 of this law shall be punishable by imprisonment for no less than three months and for no more than three years, and with a fine not less than RO2,000 and not exceeding 50,000, or with either of these two penalties, and if the crime resulted in the death of one or more persons, the imprisonment shall not be less than five years.
