MUSCAT: The Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) has issued an official warning concerning certain portable (wireless) battery chargers found to be non-compliant with approved standards and specifications, warning that their use could pose serious risks to users’ health and safety.

The Authority said the warning covers two types of electronic chargers: one under the brand “Belkin XCITE” and the other “Baseus”, citing the possibility of battery overheating that could lead to fires or other safety hazards.

The CPA emphasised that this alert is part of its ongoing efforts to protect consumers from products that may endanger public safety, reaffirming that inspection teams continue to monitor local markets and e-commerce platforms to ensure compliance with approved standards and specifications. The Authority also urged consumers to exercise caution when purchasing goods and electronic devices from online sales outlets and to verify that such products fully comply with approved safety and quality standards.

Both Belkin and Baseus have previously conducted voluntary international recalls of some portable charging devices in coordination with global safety regulators, after identifying potential issues related to overheating or electrical faults.

The Authority reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a safe consumer environment across the Sultanate of Oman through proactive market surveillance, quality inspections and awareness campaigns that educate consumers about safe purchasing practices and responsible product use.
