Al Batinah North Governorate has marked a major milestone in coastal tourism and community development with the completion of the Shinas Seafront Park Redevelopment Project, a thoughtfully planned initiative that blends recreation, sustainability and investment opportunities along one of Shinas’ most promising shorelines.
Covering 35,250 square metres and stretching 439 metres along the coast, the project transforms the waterfront into a vibrant public destination designed for families, youth and visitors.
The redevelopment features 989 metres of pedestrian walkways paved with interlock tiles to encourage active lifestyles, along with 10 shaded structures positioned to offer comfort and resting areas for park users.
A standout element of the project is the children’s play zone, which spans 1,237 square metres and includes 28 play units. Among them is an interactive game specifically designed for children with disabilities. The play area is fitted with safe rubber flooring and built to high safety standards, underlining the project’s strong focus on inclusivity.
Eng Alia al Attar, project supervisor, said the development was guided by a people-centred and sustainable vision. “Our goal was to create a seafront space that serves the community in multiple ways — recreationally, environmentally and economically. The park was designed to be accessible, safe and welcoming for all age groups, while also respecting the natural coastal setting,” she said.
Environmental sustainability formed a core component of the redevelopment. Around 4,686 square metres of green spaces have been landscaped to enhance the park’s visual appeal and ecological balance. These areas are estimated to reduce carbon emissions by approximately 2.8 tonnes annually, supporting the governorate’s broader sustainability goals.
The park also includes essential service facilities such as public restrooms and an investment outlet with a combined area of 91.8 square metres. In addition, internal roads and parking areas covering 3,952 square metres ensure smooth accessibility and traffic flow.
Residents say the impact is already visible. A Shinas resident and father, described the park as “a much-needed space for families.”
“My children finally have a safe place to play by the sea, and we can enjoy walking and relaxing together. It has changed how we spend our evenings,” he said.
With five investment kiosks and two power outlets allocated for free investment, the project also creates opportunities for small businesses and young entrepreneurs, positioning Shinas Seafront Park as a model for integrated coastal development in Oman.
