MUSCAT: A plethora of traditional food stalls at Muscat Nights locations are attracting a large number of visitors who are given a first-hand experience of Omani cuisine and leave with smiles on their faces.

The wide range of food stalls at Al Amerat Public Park, where women prepare dishes, has attracted citizens, residents and festival visitors. They come to appreciate the true culinary identity of the Sultanate of Oman.

"As soon as visitors arrive at the festival site, these stalls become open cultural stations, showcasing Omani cuisine in a contemporary form that appeals to the public and enhances the visitor experience," said Huda al Bahrani, in charge of the culinary stations.

Participating chefs interact directly with visitors, answering questions about ingredients, preparation methods, and sharing their experiences. Over the three days, foreign visitors enjoyed watching the meals being prepared and took photos to share on social media. One of the most exciting methods was the preparation of Rakhal bread, where women bake it on a hot tin 'Tobj' to make triangles filled with cheese and honey, cheese and eggs, or 'Oman chips,' a favourite for many. This scene reflected the simplicity and deliciousness of popular cuisine.

"However, the light dishes offered at the stalls vary, including Luqaimat covered with honey or lotus, Mandazi, samosas stuffed with cheese, pies, sausage rolls and other meals loved by adults and children alike," explained Moza al Maamari, a traditional cook serving people from across the country.

Traditional food stalls also play a prominent social and cultural role by sharing popular knowledge related to preparation methods and introducing children, youth and other visitors to the value of these meals in national identity. Many visitors saw these stalls as an opportunity to try new meals, learn how they are prepared, and share them with their global followers to showcase true Omani food heritage.

Following the remarkable turnout, the traditional food stalls at Al Amerat Public Park confirmed that popular cuisine is a major component of the country's cultural landscape, not just a secondary element in festivals or events.

The artistic and heritage events surrounding the area enhanced the visitor experience inside the heritage village. The kiosks became spaces of enjoyment where food flavours intersected with the arts, prompting visitors to extend their stay inside the village for a longer period.
