Oman make strong start to Arab Shooting Championship

The Arab Shooting Championship for Bullet and Air Weapons 10m Rifle and Pistol got underway at the National Olympic Shooting Complex in Muscat, hosted by the Sultanate of Oman and organised by the Oman Shooting Association, with wide participation from Arab national teams across junior and senior categories for both men and women.


The first day of competition witnessed intense contests and impressive performances. In the Junior Girls’ event, Fatima al Suwaidi of the United Arab Emirates claimed first place, followed by Ritaj al Yafai of Qatar in second and Yosr Ben Ammar of Tunisia in third.


In the Junior Boys’ category, Omani shooter Khalid al Kalbani secured the gold medal, ahead of Abdulrahman al Sulaity of Qatar, while Sultan Saleh Mohammed of the UAE finished third. In the Women’s Individual competition, Noof al Dossari of Bahrain took first place, with Yasmin Tahlak of the UAE second and Marwa al Amiri of Bahrain third.

The Men’s Individual event saw Ibrahim al Ali of the UAE claim the top spot, followed by Omani shooter Hamad al Khatri in second place and Khalid al Sharshani of Qatar in third. In the Women’s Team competition, Bahrain secured first place, followed by Kuwait and Qatar.


AL SAEEDI WINS GOLD


Meanwhile, the UAE won the gold medal in the Men’s Team event, with Bahrain finishing second and Oman third, Competitions continued on the second day, featuring the conclusion of several events, including the 50m Rifle Three Positions for men and women and the 10m Mixed Team Rifle event.


In the Men’s 50m Three Positions, Omani shooter Ali bin Sulaiman al Saeedi won gold, followed by Hamad bin Saeed al Khatri in second and Mahmoud ali Haji of Bahrain in third. In the women’s category, Fawzia Mohammed Mousa of Bahrain claimed first place, with Safaa Mohammed al Dossari second, while Amina bint Khamis al Tarshi of Oman finished third. Oman also secured first place in the Men’s Team event of the category.

Bahraini coach Abdullah Zaman praised the venue and organisation, stating, “the shooting range in Muscat is beautifully designed, fully equipped and well prepared to host not only Arab championships but also international and world level events.”


Meanwhile, an Omani national team shooter in the Under-17 category expressed her ambitions, saying “this championship is an important step in my journey, my goal is to continue developing and reach the international and global level while proudly representing Oman.”


The championship continues over the coming days, highlighting the growth of shooting sports in the Arab world and reaffirming Oman’s readiness to host major regional and international sporting events.
