

MUSCAT: Oman’s national Under-10 tennis team begun their campaign at the GCC Under-10 Tennis Championship, which is underway on Sunday in Doha, Qatar, and will run until Wednesday, featuring strong participation from Gulf nations.
The Omani delegation is represented by a squad of nine promising young players including: Omar al Shaibani, Fayadh al Hilali, Hood al Hashmi, Ali al Riyami, Muhannad al Najjar, Said al Marjabi, Ahmed al Touqi, Elias al Touqi, and female player Sara al Maskari. The team is headed by Othman Gharib al Raisi as delegation manager, with coach Sofiane Doub overseeing the technical preparations.
The national team arrived in Doha on Friday and completed several training sessions on the championship courts in preparation for the opening rounds. The players are targeting progression to the advanced stages of the tournament, building on a structured preparation programme that included consistent participation in domestic monthly competitions, which played a key role in sharpening their competitive readiness.
Coach Sofiane Doub affirmed the importance of this Gulf participation describing it as a crucial step in the development pathway for this age group. “ the continuous exposure to external competitions is essential for enhancing technical levels, stressing that the Under-10 category represents the foundation of the future of tennis in Oman. The monthly local tournaments served as an effective platform for talent identification and gradual improvement from one event to another,” he added.
“The Doha championship will provide a new and more demanding competitive environment compared to local events, offering valuable international experience for the players. I am confident in the team’s readiness and anticipated positive results from several players based on their strong technical performances in recent months." he ended.
