MUSCAT: The 13th session of the Omani-Turkish Joint Committee, held in Ankara, reviewed ways to enhance bilateral cooperation and boost trade and investment between the two friendly countries.

The Omani delegation was headed by Qais bin Mohammed al Yousef, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, while the Turkish side was led by Mehmet Şimşek, Minister of Treasury and Finance.

Discussions focused on expanding trade exchange, diversifying traded goods, and promoting joint investment opportunities, including e-commerce solutions, shipping, and re-export facilities. The committee also explored cooperation in industry, industrial zones, technology transfer, innovation-linked manufacturing and localisation.

Key areas of collaboration discussed included standards, accreditation, digital transformation in standardisation, financial and banking cooperation, SMEs, transport and logistics, energy and mining, tourism, culture, sports, education, higher education, scientific research, health, environment, urban planning, media and capacity building.

The meeting witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding in education, further strengthening educational ties between Oman and Türkiye.

Qais bin Mohammed al Yousef held meetings with Turkish counterparts, including Minister Omar Bolat and Minister Mehmet Fatih Kacır, to discuss trade, investment, industrial partnerships, and the formation of technical working groups. A roundtable with Turkish investors highlighted promising opportunities in industry, energy, tourism and health, showcasing Oman’s strategic advantages, political and economic stability and government incentives.

The discussions reflected Oman’s commitment to expanding international partnerships and strengthening investment relations with major industrial economies. Turkish investments in Oman have grown significantly, with a 21 per cent increase in the number of companies and an 18.7 per cent rise in investment volume as of September 2025, reflecting strong investor confidence in Oman’s business environment. — ONA
