Majees secured a dramatic victory in the Al Batinah North derby, defeating Sohar 3–2 in the fifth round of the 2025–2026 Oman First Division Volleyball League. It was an intense battle that stretched to five sets, reflecting the close level between both teams and their shared desire to claim all three points.
Both teams entered the match with great determination, accompanied by a lively crowd that restored the familiar derby atmosphere. Long rallies and fierce attacking duels at the net highlighted the game, with Majees ultimately celebrating a happy ending to a marathon match that was only decided in the final set.
The match was evenly contested, with both sides exchanging the lead throughout the five sets. In the first set, Majees made a strong start, imposing their attacking rhythm from the wings to win the set 25–23.
In the second set, the momentum shifted completely as Sohar improved their reception and offensive organisation, managing to level the match and take the set 25–23.
The third set saw even more excitement, with both teams constantly trading points and extending the set into extra points. Sohar demonstrated greater composure in the decisive moments, winning 28–26 to take a 2–1 lead in the match.
Majees refused to back down, roaring back in the fourth set with stronger blocking and more accurate serves, sealing the set comfortably 25–17 and forcing a decisive tie-breaker.
The fifth and final set held the crowd in suspense as the score remained tight until the final point. Majees held their nerve and prevailed 15–13, completing a 3–2 marathon victory over their rivals Sohar.
Majees led the match in total points with 114, compared to 106 for Sohar, indicating their better exploitation of key moments despite Sohar’s defensive superiority at the net with 15 block points against 9 for Majees. On the other hand, Sohar’s 39 errors significantly impacted their chances, compared to 32 errors for Majees.
In serve statistics, both teams recorded two direct aces, while Majees had the stronger offensive serves but committed 19 serve errors, versus 13 by Sohar.

Sohar’s professional player Younik Sasha shined as the match’s top scorer with 34 points, including 32 attacking points at a 47 per cent success rate, plus 2 block points, despite committing 7 errors.
For Majees, Waleed al Badi delivered a clutch performance in crucial moments, scoring 27 points including 24 attacking points at a 44 per cent success rate, along with 3 block points, making him the key factor in securing the victory even though he committed 8 errors.
