KHASAB: The first edition of the Kumzar Festival drew strong public interest and engagement in Musandam Governorate as part of the 'Winter Musandam' season, celebrating the unique cultural identity of the coastal village through a rich blend of heritage and artistic performances.
The festival, which concluded on Wednesday, highlighted Kumzar’s distinctive character and traditions, offering visitors an immersive experience that combines authenticity with creativity.
Abdullah bin Ahmed al Shehhi, Chairman of the Festival Events Committee, described the event as a significant addition to Musandam’s tourism calendar, noting that Kumzar’s boat-only accessibility enhances its appeal as an exclusive cultural destination.
He said the festival aims to support productive families and local craftsmen, revive traditional practices, and promote Kumzar as a distinctive maritime tourism hub, while actively engaging the local community in its organisation.
The festival features a hospitality majlis, the 'Made in Kumzar' corner, artistic showcases, heritage competitions such as sword dancing and yowla, entertainment activities, shopping areas and traditional food stalls. Visitors are also treated to authentic folk arts, including Al Rawah, Al Nadba, Al Sahba, Al Dan and Al Hamasiya, alongside maritime arts such as Al Sarw and Al Qawl.
Kumzar village is renowned for its exceptional natural setting, where mountains meet the sea, accessible through scenic bays, and for its historical landmarks, including the Kumzar Tower and its ancient mosque, adding to the festival’s cultural and touristic significance. - ONA
