LONDON: The Sultanate of Oman on Tuesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Board of Trustees of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
The MoU deals with the implementation of joint scientific studies to research Omani flora, document its diversity, and publish specialised research and training programmes. These programmes aim to enhance national expertise in environmental education and plant conservation.
The MoU was signed by Azzan bin Qasim al Busaidy, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism for Tourism, and Richard Deverell, Director of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew.
This memorandum represents a renewal and expansion of the ongoing cooperation between the Oman Botanic Garden and the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, which has spanned over a decade in the fields of scientific research, plant conservation and biodiversity documentation. It also affirms the commitment of both parties to enhancing the exchange of knowledge, training and capacity-building, particularly in the areas of seed collection and preservation in accordance with international standards.
The MoU will remain valid for three years, renewable upon the mutual consent of both parties, ensuring the continuation of long-term cooperation and the sustainable transfer of knowledge between the Sultanate of Oman and the United Kingdom.
