Shitoryu Oman claim top place in Land of Peace Open karate

Muscat: Shitoryu Oman Karate Do Kai Club emerged overall champions in the second Land of Peace Open Karate Championship 2025 at the Al Amal Sports Club Hall in Muscat recently.


Shotokan Karate Centre claimed the second spot, while Karate Champions Club took third position and Karate Champions Academy finished third after a strong competition among the 310 male and female karate athletes.

The grand event, organised by the Shotokan Karate Centre under the umbrella of the Oman Karate Committee, was held on November 7 under the auspices of Tariq bin Mohammed al Kharousi, Member of the Majlis Ash’shura representing Al Awabi.


The championship featured 310 male and female athletes competing in various age categories of kata and kumite events, representing 24 clubs, academies and karate centres from seven countries: Oman, UAE, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Sudan and Egypt. The competition was officiated by 38 international and national referees, while 25 organisers managed different committees.

The championship was sponsored by Badr Al Samaa Medical Group, Mazoon Dairy Company, City Lights Company, Talal Al Akhzami International, Shikara Martial Arts, Orangy Juices, Distinguished Multi Business Company and Al Naabi Sweets.


The event attracted a large audience of karate enthusiasts, parents of the athletes as well as prominent social figures and media representatives.


During the closing ceremony, the chief guest honoured the referees while medals were awarded to winners in several age categories for both kata and kumite.

Some Shotokan Karate Centre coaches and athletes were also honoured, with Tariq al Kharousi presenting them with Black Belt (Dan) certificates of various degrees, in recognition of their dedication to training and commitment to developing their technical skills.


The ceremony also recognised the participating clubs alongside the organising committees.


Following that, Sensei Navas Mokeri – Chairman of Shotokan Karate Centre, Sensei Yousuf bin Musallam al Siyabi – Head Coach, Sensei Hilal bin Mohammed al Abdali – Secretary, and several members of the centre presented a commemorative shield to the chief guest, expressing their appreciation and gratitude for his continuous support.

25 YEARS OF DEDICATION


Navas Mokeri, Chairman and Founder of the Shotokan Karate Centre, said: “For the past 25 years, we have been dedicated to teaching karate and promoting discipline and respect among our students. Each year, we organise both national and international competitions.


“The second Land of Peace Open karate competition was a resounding success, with all the coaches and participants extremely pleased with the outcome. The event featured 38 world-class referees, both international and national, as well as 25 dedicated organisers. The positive feedback from participants, especially those from abroad, was truly gratifying.”

Hilal bin Ali al Kindi, a member of Shotokan Karate Centre, said: “It was a wonderful event by all standards, in terms of preparation, organisation, management and execution. The championship, which saw wide participation from Oman and outside, achieved its goals. The event had a positive impact on the players and parents.”


Ashbind Peruli, an instructor at Shotokan Karate Centre, said: For over 25 years, the Shotokan Karate Centre has been proudly serving the community in Oman, promoting discipline, respect and physical fitness through karate. Each year, we organise national and international championships with the participation of 300 to 500 students from across the GCC countries.”

Amjad bin Ahmed al Zadjali, one of the parents, said: “As a father of one of the participants, I am truly proud of the remarkable efforts made by the Shotokan Karate Centre and the event management team. The tournament was organised with great professionalism and attention to detail, creating a wonderful atmosphere for the young athletes to showcase their skills.”
