

KHASAB: The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth organised an introductory workshop titled ‘Employing Applied and Technical Future Skills in the Omani Encyclopedia for Young People’ at the Department of Culture, Sports and Youth headquarters in Musandam Governorate.
The session, moderated by Fatima bint Khalifa al Hawsaniyah, Director of the Omani Encyclopedia Department, explored several themes including the educational goals of the encyclopaedia, its link to school curricula, and ways to design interactive learning activities that strengthen students’ understanding of Omani identity and culture.
Dr Fatima bint Rashid al Alayaniyah presented a paper on 'Employing Applied and Technical Future Skills in the Omani Encyclopedia for Young People', emphasising that the encyclopaedia serves as a national platform for building future-ready skills among students. She noted that it supports national efforts to integrate culture, education, and technology, fostering a creative generation equipped for the future.
Dr Al Alayani highlighted that the encyclopaedia provides a comprehensive knowledge resource that educators can utilise innovatively through classroom activities and applied projects to enhance critical thinking, creativity and research skills, while deepening students’ connection to their environment and heritage through digital and interactive media.
Researcher Khadija bint Ali al Mufarjiyah also presented a paper titled 'The Role of the Omani Encyclopedia for Young People in Enriching the Knowledge Building of Learners.' She underlined the importance of authentic educational resources in shaping thought and identity, stressing that the encyclopaedia enriches young learners’ knowledge across literature, art, history, science and society, while reinforcing their cultural identity.
The workshop concluded with a dialogue session for educators, offering an opportunity to exchange ideas on effectively integrating the encyclopaedia into teaching practices. An applied workshop was also conducted to help participants gain a hands-on understanding of its content and applications within the educational process. — ONA
