Muscat: The Oman Meteorology Office issued a dust alert for the coastal areas of the Sea of Oman and the surrounding areas, warning of reduced horizontal visibility and possible health risks for sensitive groups.

According to the Met Office, the alert comes into effect from November 5 to November 6.

The weather forecast classified the intensity as moderate, with a moderate likelihood of continued dust activity.

The horizontal visibility is expected to drop to between 500 and 1,000 metres due to dust suspension and rising particulate matter. The phenomenon may pose health risks for individuals with respiratory conditions and could also lead to reduced visibility on main roads and highways, affecting road users, according to the Met officials.

Meanwhile, the Met Office advised the public, especially those with respiratory illnesses or sensitivity to dust, to avoid prolonged outdoor exposure and to wear suitable face coverings when venturing outside. Motorists are also urged to exercise caution while driving due to poor visibility.
