Oman, Iran discuss ways to enhance cooperation

TEHRAN: Sayyid Hamoud bin Faisal al Busaidy, Minister of Interior, met in Tehran on Tuesday with Eskandar Momeni, Minister of Interior of the Islamic Republic of Iran.


The meeting took place within the context of Oman's participation as a guest of honour in the fourth meeting of Interior Ministers of the Economic Cooperation Organisation (ECO) member states.


During the meeting, the two ministers discussed ways to enhance the existing cooperation between the Sultanate of Oman and the Islamic Republic of Iran in areas of mutual interest. They also reviewed a set of regional topics related to the work of the Economic Cooperation Organisation, particularly in the security fields.


Both sides emphasised the importance of developing channels of cooperation and communication between the relevant departments in the two countries and exchanging expertise. This aims to enhance joint efforts in addressing regional challenges and contribute to supporting security, stability and sustainable development.


During the ECO meeting that was inaugurated in Tehran by President Dr Masoud Pezeshkian of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Sayyid Hamoud emphasised the importance of enhancing joint cooperation among the Interior Ministers of the Organisation, particularly in light of the current regional and international challenges.


The meeting discussed ways to enhance joint security cooperation by addressing current security challenges, the importance of cooperation in the fields of border security, combating drugs and cybercrimes, in addition to exchanging information and expertise between security agencies, and developing joint training programmes and capacity building. - ONA
