Thousands of expatriates from the state of Kerala, in south India, warmly welcomed their chief minister, Pinarayi Vijayan, who was in town to attend the three-day Indian Community Festival (ICF), the largest of its kind, on Friday.
He arrived in Salalah on Saturday to meet with his compatriots and party workers in Dhofar Governorate and to participate in a couple of events there.
Addressing the large gathering, Vijayan stated that modern Kerala was developed with the support of Malayalis working abroad, including those in Oman, and that the true story of Kerala’s progress is often misrepresented.
During his speech in front of the expatriates in Oman, the Chief Minister outlined the development projects of the Left government. “The Kerala government is dedicated to advancing society. It stands by the people and will not falter in the face of opposition. It has been proven that continuous governance contributes to the country’s development,” he said, urging the people to support continuity.
He credited the educational and social advancements in the state to the hardworking expatriates, emphasising that Kerala’s progress is a result of supporting expatriates. He encouraged people to address shortcomings and continue to improve Kerala’s development. The Chief Minister highlighted the accomplishments of various schemes related to expatriates in his speech.
