

MUSCAT: The opening day of 30th edition of Arab Men’s and 20th edition of Arab Women’s Beach Volleyball Championships featured strong competition as Oman women's team began their campaign with an impressive win against Bahrain by 2-1 on the sands of Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher on Wednesday.
Oman’s women’s team duo of Maryam al Oraimi and Liqaa al Hosni delivered a spirited performance to defeat the Bahraini pair Muneera and Fatma 2-1 in overall result. The Omanis took the opening set 21-18 before Bahrain levelled the match in the second. In the deciding set, Maryam and Liqaa showcased their dominance, closing out the match with a commanding 15-6 victory.
ALGERIA PREVAIL
Elsewhere, Algeria's men's and women's teams also enjoyed winning starts. In the men's category, Algeria’s Kalooshand Suwadi outplayed Yemen’s Abdullah and Omar in straight sets (21-18, 21-8). Meanwhile, Algerian women’s duo of Hasayen Ikram and Shaheya Mukhtar posted a confident 2-0 win (21-11, 21-9) against Saudi Arabia’s Basma and Lujain.
The men's team is under the guidance of coach Badar al Subhi, while the women’s team is coached by Azhar al Bahrani. The tournament will run for four days and will conclude on Saturday promising high-level beach volleyball action in Muscat.
The championship, hosted by the Oman Volleyball Association (OVA), featured attendance of 20 teams including 12 men's and 8 women's from across the Arab region, including teams from Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco, Sudan and Oman.
Oman are fielding two teams in both men’s and women’s categories as Men’s Team 1 represented by Ahmed al Hosni and Hood al Jalboubi while Men’s Team 2 comprised from Yousef al Abri and Nooh al Jalboubi. Women’s Team 1 pair featured from Maryam al Oraimi and Liqaa al Hosni and Women’s Team 2 comprised from Furat al Balushi and Al Shaima al Zadjali.
