

MUSCAT, MAY 22
Oman beach volleyball team is all set to commence their participation at the second round of the West Asian Beach Volleyball Championship which began on Wednesday in Jordan and will run until Monday. Teams of Hood al Jalboubi and Mazin al Hashmi, Haitham al Shuraiqi and Ahmed al Hosni will represent Oman in the West Asian event.
The tournament saw participation of six national teams including: Oman, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Lebanon and hosts Jordan. A total of 12 men’s teams besides 10 women’s teams are participating to vie for the coveted medals of the West Asian event. The matches are taking place at the Princess Aya courts in Al Hussein Youth City.
The Omani duo of Hood al Jalboubi and Mazin al Hashmi delivered an outstanding show in the first round of West Asia Men’s Tour, hosted in Doha city, Qatar and concluded on May 10. Oman’s pair won the title following their thrilling victory over hosts Qatar by 2-0 in the final.
In earlier matches of the opening day, Jordan team defeated Saudi Arabia 2-0 while Jordan team 2 suffered a 2-0 loss against Lebanon team. Saudi Arabia team beat Kuwait 2-0 while Lebanon team outclassed Kuwait 2-0.
A technical meeting was organised ahead of the tournament. During the meeting, the officials approved the squads of the teams besides player eligibility was confirmed, and the draw for the tournament groups was conducted for both the men’s and women’s competitions.
Hosts Jordan are taking part in both men's and women’s category including two players’ pairs in men’s including: Rashid al Alwan and Ahmed al Awamleh, Ayham Khanfar with Ahmad al Atallah. In the women's competition, Jordan are fielding four teams represented by Farah al Atout, Nancy Ayash, Rahaf Haymour, Shahd al Awamleh, Raghad Haymour, Ghaidaa al Ashoush, Katerina Haddad and Batoul al Muhaseri.
