A wave of social innovation is sweeping through Al Batinah North as the Basmat Ata’a initiative — one of the flagship programmes under the Omani Volunteers Network 'Taawon' — launched a mobile bazaar for productive families in partnership with Sohar Port and Freezone.

The initiative transforms compassion into enterprise, helping families earn a sustainable living while celebrating the richness of Omani craftsmanship.

The first stop of the mobile market took place at the Naval College at the beginning of October under the auspices of Shaikh Abdullah bin Yahya al Jabri, Vice-Chairman of the Al Batinah North Municipal Council. The second event followed at China Downtown Sohar, under the auspices of businessman Idris al Awadhi.

Targeting non-sponsored productive families, the initiative provides a vibrant platform to showcase handmade crafts, traditional delicacies, and local products directly to the public. To ensure long-term visibility, organisers are developing a dedicated website and social media platforms to promote these products year-round.

“This is more than just a charity event — it’s a lifeline for many families who rely on their skills to support themselves,” said a representative from Basmat Ata’a. “Through public-private partnerships, we’re building a model of sustainable empowerment that connects communities and businesses in meaningful ways.”

Visitors also lauded the initiative. Fatma al Shibli, one of the attendees, shared her enthusiasm: “It’s inspiring to meet these families and see the passion behind every product. It makes you want to support local talent even more.”

By linking economic empowerment with social connection, the Rolling Market of Hope transforms shopping into an act of solidarity — celebrating creativity, resilience, and the Omani spirit of giving.

The market carries with it not just goods, but stories of determination and pride, reminding everyone that true development begins with empowering people.
