MUSCAT: Gaba Clinic, in association with the Muscat Family Physicians' Group, organised a medical conference on ‘Chronic Pain Management’ at Intercity Hotel, Al Khuwair, on September 30.


The guest speaker was Dr Salama al Harthy, Consultant Pain Physician and Medical Director of Gaba Pain Centre, Al Hayl.


The conference was attended by 50 eminent practitioners from diverse fields including neurosurgery, orthopaedics, anaesthesiology, gynaecology, emergency medicine, family practice, homoeopathy and Ayurveda.


Dr Salama, the first Omani Senior Consultant in Pain Management, formerly headed the Department of Pain Medicine at the Royal Hospital before becoming the first pain medicine physician in the private sector.


Speaking on ‘Chronic Pain – The New Epidemic,’ she drew attention to the rising prevalence of chronic pain and underscored the importance of early diagnosis, interventional procedures, physiotherapy and regenerative therapies. She also highlighted advancements in cancer pain management and spinal cord stimulation therapy, emphasising her goal to raise the standard of pain care in Oman.


Dr Sanjay Dalal, Founder of Muscat Family Physicians’ Group, welcomed Dr Salama to the private healthcare sector and assured the group’s support in her mission to ‘alleviate pain.’


The presentation sparked active discussion among participants on how healthcare professionals across specialities can play a frontline role in addressing this growing health issue and improving patients’ quality of life.
