SALALAH: The Al Gharif tourism project, implemented and managed by a group of Omani entrepreneurs with the support of Dhofar Municipality, is set to transform the tourism landscape in Dhofar Governorate by reviving the traditional farm experience with a modern, sustainable vision.

Spanning 25,000 square metres on one of Salalah’s farms, the project blends the beauty of nature with cultural heritage. At its heart lies a water channel (Saqiya), surrounded by landscaped walkways and public seating, creating a serene space that reflects the essence of local agricultural traditions while offering a contemporary appeal for visitors.

Al Gharif features four main cafes and kiosks serving a variety of food, beverages and seasonal tropical fruits, alongside a dedicated events area that will host year-round activities aligned with Dhofar’s tourist seasons. The site also includes a walkway designed for agricultural experiences among banana plantations and a horse stable that adds an authentic environmental touch.

Ahmed bin Aqeel Muqbil, a founding partner, said the project aims to “transform the traditional farm into an integrated tourist destination that offers visitors a blend of authenticity and modern aesthetics.”

He explained that the name ‘Al Gharf,’ meaning fertile agricultural land in the local dialect, embodies the project’s deep connection to Dhofari culture. The logo, inspired by palm fronds, symbolises harmony with nature.

The project’s second phase will expand its offerings to include an adventure area, a natural nursery, a honey house and a natural pool — further diversifying its attractions and cementing Al Gharif’s status as a premier tourist destination in Salalah.
