Tourists engaging in unwanted activities that damage nature at the fishing harbour have been a key focus of the second meeting of the Sea Traditions Committee.

The meeting was chaired by Ahmed bin Ali bin Hamdan al Shehhi, the Wali of Al Seeb, on Tuesday. Additionally, various issues and concerns of fishermen in the Wilayat of Al Seeb were addressed by the Wali of Al Seeb Office during the meeting.

"The focus of the second meeting was tourists engaging in such activities at the fishing harbour of Al Seeb, as this practice has been detrimental to the traditional fishermen," said the wali after the meeting. The meeting was primarily convened to follow up on fishermen's affairs and discuss the challenges and opportunities associated with artisanal fishing and fishery conservation.

During the meeting, several issues related to organising artisanal fishing and managing maritime activities were reviewed, including the standards and requirements for replacing artisanal fishing boats. Additionally, feedback from fishermen regarding tourists engaging in such activities at the fishing harbour in Al Seeb was discussed.

The Committee listened to representatives of the fishermen, who presented various requests and proposals to address the challenges they face during their fishing activities. This input aims to contribute to enhancing fishery sustainability.

This meeting highlighted the committee's role in organising fishermen's affairs and preserving maritime heritage. A statement issued after the meeting emphasised that the local committee examines challenges, submits proposals, and makes recommendations to develop the fisheries sector and increase resource profitability, ultimately supporting sustainable development efforts in Al Seeb.
