Muscat: The National Multi-Hazard Early Warning Centre of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) issued a weather alert on heavy rainfall expected over several governorates from Wednesday to Thursday, August 20–21.

According to the alert, thunderstorms and downdraft winds are anticipated over the governorates of Dhofar, al Wusta, and North al Sharqiyah, with rainfall amounts ranging between 20 and 50 millimetres, leading to the flow of streams and wadis.

The CAA noted that rainfall of varying intensity, occasionally accompanied by thunderstorms, is also possible over parts of South al Sharqiyah, al Dakhiliyah, and Al Dhahirah.

The authority urged the public to exercise caution during heavy rain, avoid crossing wadis due to the risk of flash floods, keep away from low-lying areas, and refrain from sailing.

Alerts issued by the CAA include:

Heavy rainfall ranging between 20 and 50 mm, which may trigger flash floods (wadis).

Strong downdraft winds with speeds between 15 and 45 knots (28–83 km/h).

Rough seas along the Arabian Sea coast, with wave heights of 3 to 4 metres.

Reduced horizontal visibility during heavy rain and rising dust.
