Muscat:  The Civil Aviation Authority has issued a weather report warning of unstable conditions across the Sultanate of Oman from August 19 to 22, as the country is affected by a trough of upper air.

According to the National Multi Hazard Early Warning Center, cloud formations are expected to continue over most governorates, with chances of isolated rainfall of varying intensity, accompanied at times by thunderstorms. The affected areas include Al Wusta, Dhofar, South Al Sharqiyah, North Al Sharqiyah, and parts of A’Dakhiliyah and A’Dhahirah.

On Tuesday, cloud advection and scattered rainfall, occasionally turning into thunderstorms, were reported across Al Wusta, Dhofar, and both South and North Al Sharqiyah, as well as parts of A’Dakhiliyah and A’Dhahirah. Rainfall is forecast to intensify over Al Wusta and Dhofar, with expected amounts ranging between 10 to 35 millimeters, which could cause wadis to flow. Downdraft winds with speeds between 20 to 45 knots (37–83 km/h) may occur, leading to poor horizontal visibility due to dust and unstable conditions at sea, where waves could reach heights of up to four meters along the Arabian Sea coast.

On Wednesday, unstable conditions are set to continue with cloud cover and isolated showers across most governorates, intensifying particularly over South and North Al Sharqiyah, Al Wusta, and Dhofar. Rainfall between 10 to 30 millimeters is expected, along with strong winds, reduced visibility, and rough seas.

From Thursday through Friday, the pattern will persist, with chances of heavier rainfall ranging between 15 and 40 millimeters over several governorates, which may again result in flowing wadis. The Civil Aviation Authority has urged the public to exercise extreme caution during rainfall and flash floods, to check sea conditions before sailing, and to follow all official weather bulletins and advisories.
