MHT plans integrated governance system to address challenges

Muscat: The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism (MHT) plans to adopt an integrated governance system between ministries and governorates by the end of 2025.


At the end of the national workshop on 'Addressing the Challenges of Governance in Heritage and Tourism Development Management with Governorates,' MHT said the system


Includes developing an integrated governance system between the ministry and governorates, clearly agreeing on the division of powers and responsibilities, preparing and implementing tourism development plans for approved and new governorates, agreeing on the allocation of heritage and tourism lands and areas, and strengthening institutional partnerships with the private sector and civil society.


The workshop discussed practical initiatives and solutions aimed at addressing the challenges of governance in managing the development of the heritage and tourism sectors, and developing initiatives that will enhance the achievement of a set of goals by 2040, including raising the tourism sector’s contribution to the gross domestic product to 5.3%, achieving heritage and tourism investments estimated at RO12 billion, raising the competitiveness of the Sultanate of Oman in the travel and tourism index to 40th place globally, and Increasing the satisfaction rate of local and foreign tourists with tourism services and basic facilities to reach 80 percent.
