MUSCAT: To streamline consumer-supplier relations and ensure legal compliance, the Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) has launched the 'Your Contract Protects You' initiative. The programme ensures that all commercial agreements align with the Consumer Protection Law and related regulations, safeguarding the rights of both consumers and suppliers.

Issa bin Muslim al Nabhani, Director of the Studies and Market Research Department, stated that the initiative aims to reduce legal violations, enhance the business environment and simplify market procedures — especially in contractual dealings. Now in its second edition, the campaign targets all sectors and types of commercial transactions.

The initiative seeks to clarify the CPA’s responsibilities regarding contracts and invoices, promote fairness and transparency in commercial agreements and raise awareness of consumer rights and legal obligations. It also aims to eliminate unfair contract terms and foster a market based on legal and ethical practices.

To support the initiative, an educational awareness team has been deployed across Omani markets. This team will educate consumers and suppliers on their rights and responsibilities during and after transactions, highlight challenges and provide practical solutions.

Key expected outcomes include a reduction in consumer complaints, improved quality of awareness programmes and enhanced service delivery across all sectors. Additionally, the initiative is expected to lead to better compliance, fewer violations and an improved business climate by encouraging suppliers and shopping mall owners to align with CPA regulations.
