

MUSCAT: The Oman Rugby Six side Championship concluded successfully on Friday 11th April at The Sultan’s School field, organised by the Oman Rugby Committee in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth (MoCSY), amidst an enthusiastic atmosphere and wide participation from local and international teams.
The tournament featured 10 teams representing various sectors, including military and civilian squads. Among the participants were a team from Saudi Arabia, "Dhahran Scorpions", a GCC based team in UAE “FFP”, two teams from the British Navy, and six teams from Oman. A Barbarian Team, Touch Tuesdays Muscat, Muscat Oryx, Dhofar Nomads, Dima W'attayeen and Al Dakhiliyah Club “Dakemons”.
The variety of teams reflects the international scope of the championship and the growing popularity of rugby in the Sultanate of Oman.
The participating teams were divided into two groups: Men's Group, consisting of five teams and Mixed Group (4 men and 2 women), also with five teams.
At the end of the competitions, the GCC team “FFP” was crowned champion of the Men’s Group after a decisive 7–1 victory over “Dakemons”.
In the Mixed Group, the Saudi team “Dhahran Scorpions” clinched the title, defeating Muscat based Touch Tuesdays in the final with a 3–2 win.
Mohammed al Hashmi, Director of the National Rugby Team, stated:
"The organisation of this championship comes as part of the Oman Rugby Committee’s efforts to promote the sport and expand its presence within Oman. It also serves to increase the experience of our national players through exposure to international teams. The participation of teams from Saudi Arabia, Asia and Britain greatly contributed to the success of the event."
He emphasised that the tournament provided a valuable opportunity for developing players, especially newcomers, while also enabling the exchange of expertise with other teams. He also expressed his gratitude for the support of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth. The event drew a notable audience of rugby fans, reflecting the sport's growing appeal among Omani youth and the commitment of sports institutions to hosting such distinctive events.
