OTA's third monthly tennis championship concludes

MUSCAT: The third monthly tennis championship organised by the Oman Tennis Association, concluded on Sunday with extensive participation from players of various age groups and nationalities. The championship witnessed strong competition among nearly 100 male and female players at the tennis courts of the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher. The event was held under the auspices of the Secretary-General of the Oman Tennis Association, Munther al Barwani, and attended by the players' families and the coaching staff of the national teams.

The championship culminated with the final match in the Under 14 category, which brought together Abdulrahman al Rahbi and Sharon. Sharon won the match with a score of 9-3, showcasing the high technical level of the participants. The strong performances reflected the players’ development and the benefits of participating in such regularly organised tournaments aimed at enhancing their technical skills and improving their abilities.

At the conclusion of the third monthly championship, several players excelled across various categories. In the Under-18 Boys and Girls category, Abdulrahman al Rahbi claimed first place, followed by Azzan al Busaidy in second. The Under-14 Boys category saw Sharon securing the top spot, with Abdulrahman al Rahbi finishing as the runner-up. In the Under-12 Boys category, Mithun Brahaman emerged as the champion, while Kavinraj Arunraj took second place. Among the girls, Talia al Busaidy demonstrated her prowess by winning both the Under-14 and Under-12 categories, with Arin al Azki and Jigesha Diori finishing second in their respective categories. In the Under-10 Boys category, Riyan Tyagi clinched first place, followed by Kavinraj Arunraj. The mini tennis categories also showcased young talent, with Omar al Shaibani securing first place in both the Under-9 and Under-8 categories, while Hatem al Rahbi finished second in both groups.

Munther al Barwani emphasised the importance of continuing to organise such tournaments to provide young players with more opportunities to gain experience and competitiveness. He highlighted that these events significantly contribute to improving the performance of national team players. Al Barwani also noted that the association is working on various programmes to expand the game’s base, with plans to host upcoming tournaments in Oman.
