Education has always been a cornerstone of development in Oman, and His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik has demonstrated a profound commitment to enhancing the educational landscape of the nation.

His Majesty's visit to Sultan Faisal bin Turki School in the Wilayat of Amerat on Monday underscores this dedication and highlights the ongoing efforts to improve educational standards across the country.

The Sultanate of Oman has recognised that education is vital towards fostering economic growth, social development, and cultural enrichment with the government investing significantly in educational infrastructure, curriculum development and teacher training programmes.

His Majesty Sultan Haitham’s vision aligns with these goals, emphasising the need for quality education that prepares students for the challenges of the modern world.

During his visit to the school in Al Amerat, His Majesty engaged with students and educators, showcasing his hands-on approach to leadership.

This visit was not merely ceremonial; it served as an opportunity for him to assess firsthand the conditions within schools and understand the challenges faced by both students and teachers through his engagement with students and teachers.

The visit to the student learning centre highlighted a shift towards more student-centric approaches in education. His Majesty emphasised the importance of engaging students actively in their learning processes.

This is in addition to recognising the role of technology in modern education. This approach is intended to enhance learning experiences and prepare students for a technology-driven world.

The visit also underscored the importance of community involvement in education. His Majesty has been encouraged parents and local communities to participate actively in supporting schools, thereby creating a collaborative environment conducive to learning.

His Majesty’s keen interest in education reflects a broader commitment to national development through knowledge empowerment.

By visiting schools like the one in Amerat, he not only inspires confidence among educators and students but also reinforces the government’s dedication to building an educated populace capable of contributing meaningfully to society.

Next month, the Sultanate of Oman will launch a new educational initiative known as the 'National System for Evaluating School Performance'. This system is a significant development in the country’s ongoing efforts to enhance the quality and efficiency of the education sector.

The system aligns with the authority’s mandates and responsibilities, as outlined in Royal Decree No 9/2021, establishing the Oman Authority for Academic Accreditation and Quality Assurance of Education (OAAAQAE) to assure the quality of school and higher education in Oman, ensuring it consistently meets international standards, and encouraging educational institutions to build their own internal quality assurance systems.

This national system is part of a comprehensive strategy to enhance the efficiency of both public and private school education institutions through rigorous review processes and comprehensive reports and it aims to improve school performance by adhering to a set of standards and indicators.
