MUSCAT: Richard Fish of Oman overcame a stiff competition from a strong field to emerge champion at the Assarain Golf Classic. The 29th edition of the Assarain Golf Classic was held at the Ghala Golf Club on February 7 and 8 with the participation of around 130 golfers.

A delighted Fish said: "The Assarain Golf Classic is a fantastic tournament and it feels great to win a competition of this stature. I would like to thank my playing partners over the last few days. It was a pleasure to be in this event and again I would like to thank the sponsor Assarain Group of Companies.”

Ahmed al Farsi, General Manager of Ghala Golf Club, who managed the event, said: "The atmosphere was electric from the first day. I was truly amazed by the participation and overall feel of the 2025 Assarain Golf Classic. We were oversubscribed and had to have a cut off for players as we unfortunately could not fit all of them in, but overall, it was a tremendous occasion."

HH Sayyid Azzan bin Qais al Said, Chairman of the Oman Golf Association, was the guest of honour at the ceremony held on the final day that was graced by a host of dignitaries. The Assarain Classic ended with its tradition of raffling off a Hublot watch which was won by Mubarak al Hassani.

Commenting upon the success of the event, Ibrahim al Wahaibi, Director of Assarain Group of Companies, said: "I would like to congratulate all the winners in the respective categories and would like to thank all the participants. With the success of the 2025 event, we are committed to making the Assarain Golf Classic Tournament bigger and better in the coming years while maintaining our strong professional standards of hosting one of the oldest golf tournaments in the Sultanate of Oman.”
