'Keehal', owned by the Royal Camel Corps (RCC), 'Mulfetah', owned by Humaid al Amri, and 'Mohemah', owned by Dheidan al Mari, clinched the cars and daggers in the main rounds of the ‘Laqaya’ category in the annual camel races in the Wilayat of Suhar on Monday.

Organised and supported by the Oman Camel Racing Federation (OCRF), the six-day competition features 100 rounds with participation from camels representing the Sultanate of Oman and the GCC.

The event, part of the 22nd edition of the annual camel races for the 2024-2025 season, runs from January 25 to 30 at the Wilayat of Suhar camel race track.

This year’s event will see over 1,000 prizes, including 24 cars, 15 daggers, 6 icons, silver and gold swords, and cash prizes for the top ten winners.

The opening day on Saturday morning witnessed 15 rounds dedicated to the ‘Hagayeg’ category—two-year-old camels racing over a distance of 4 km—with cash prizes for the top ten winners.

On the second day, 15 rounds were held in the morning session for the same category, followed by 8 rounds in the afternoon. Prizes for the afternoon rounds included 8 cars, 3 daggers, and 2 icons.

The third day, Monday, witnessed 18 rounds with cash prizes for the ‘Laqaya’ category, for three-year-old camels over a distance of 5 km, while in the afternoon the category concluded with 7 rounds, offering 7 car prizes, three daggers, and two icons.

The fourth day, Tuesday, will witness 13 rounds for the ‘Al Ythaa’ category, four-year-old camels racing over 6 km, while the main rounds will kick off in the afternoon with 5 rounds featuring four cars, two daggers, and two icons.

The Oman Camel Racing Federation announced certain participation conditions, which are limited to purebred camels, with the use of blood stimulants, stimulating substances, or electric shocks strictly prohibited.
