Muscat: Ishwar Deshmukh, Senior Physical Education Teacher working at Indian School Salalah (ISS), excelled in the 45th Maharashtra State Inter District Masters Athletic Championship held at Nagpur in the last week of December organised by Nagpur District Masters Athletics Association.


Deshmukh who hails from Nagpur competing in the 55 + age category clinched gold medal in 4 x 100 metres relay and silver medals in the 5 km walk and high jump. He was also felicitated by Domnic Savio, Secretary of Maharashtra Athletic Federation, for his contribution in the field of sports and games in India and also in the Gulf countries. He had represented the Maharashtra State Athletic team for the Masters Athletic Championship held at GMC Balyogi Athletic Stadium, Hyderabad in 2017.


Ishwar was the first expatriate in Salalah to complete a challenging distance of walking 54 km in 8.08.09 s setting a new benchmark for endurance in the region on 20th November to commemorate the 54th Oman National Day. Deshmukh was not only the first to begin the journey but also the first to cross the finish line.

His ability to conquer these physically demanding challenges demonstrates an unwavering commitment to fitness and an indomitable will.
