MUSCAT: Over 30 professional racers from 10 countries are taking part in the International Drift Cup organised by the Oman Automobile Association (OAA) in cooperation with the Muscat Municipality, which was flagged off on Friday, December 27, 2024. By adding such an exclusive sporting event, Muscat Nights are again the focal point of international racers and other sports enthusiasts as the MENA Drift Cup serves as a unique sporting event for motorsports and drifting enthusiasts. It aims to provide an experience that combines technical skill and excitement, allowing the audience to follow unprecedented and challenging sporting events. Speaking at the launch, Mohammed bin Talib al Raisi, Marketing Manager at the OAA, said that the championship brings together motorsports and drifting enthusiasts from all over the Sultanate of Oman and abroad. It is witnessing exciting competitions full of enthusiasm and suspense, where elite drivers present dazzling performances that combine high technical performance and sports skill. “We, at the OAA, are striving to advance motorsports in the Sultanate of Oman by organising a group of local, regional, and international championships to attract fans of these sports and motivate them to practice them safely in accordance with the rules and standards set by the International Automobile Federation,” Al Raisi said. Each competitor faced their opponents to compete in two rounds of the race on the first day of the championship. The points collected by the competitors were calculated to qualify 16 competitors for the rounds and stages of the final day of the championship the next day. A variety of other sports events are lined up as part of the 30-day-long Muscat Nights, which are sure to give an adrenaline rush to sports enthusiasts in the country and the region.
