Muscat - Some Omani companies have started exporting fish products to the People's Republic of China.
Dr. Masoud bin Sulaiman al Azri, Director General of Agricultural and Fisheries Marketing at the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources (MAFWR), said the exports follow the agreements signed between the governments regarding inspection, quarantine, and veterinary health requirements for exporting marine products from the Sultanate of Oman to China.
23 Omani companies have been accredited with a fish quality control certificate, which is compatible with the health conditions and standards for export from the competent authorities in the People's Republic of China.
It may be noted that fish production in the Sultanate of Oman was 793,000 tonnes in 2023, an increase of six percent over 2022, with a value of RO531 million.
The total fish exported is about 324,000 tonnes, with a value of RO189 million, through marketing the products to about 84 countries
