'Nahab’ triumphs on day 3 of Barka Camel Racing

‘Nahab’, owned by Hamed al Jedali, snatched the third-day honours of the first general camel race in Barka on Sunday. ‘Sasko’, owned by Shehab al Shabibi, was the champion in Al Bashayer field. This was the first race of the 22nd edition of the annual camel races for the 2024-2025 season, with more than 2,500 camels competing in 89 rounds in Barka and Adam fields.


The event is supported by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth and organised by the Oman Camel Racing Federation (OCRF) in cooperation with the Royal Camel Corps (RCC).


The OCRF’s Board of Directors recently announced 23 local events: 13 general races, three races sponsored by Shell Oman, three races sponsored by Occidental Oman, and four events featuring camel beauty contests, milking competitions and Ardah (traditional races).


On the third day, there were 26 rounds divided equally between Barka and Adam, with 12 rounds for the ‘Al Ythaa’ category, four years old, for 5 km, six rounds for the ‘Al Thanaya’ category, five years old, over a distance of 6 km, and eight rounds allocated for the ‘Al Hawl’ category, above six years, for 6 km.


‘Nahab’, owned by Hamed al Jedali, won the first race. In the second race, ‘Khayal’ came first, owned by Abdulah al Khali. The third race was won by ‘Moghree’, owned by Said al Hashmi. The fourth race was won by ‘Hothur’, owned by Nasir al Wahibi. The fifth race was won by ‘Rhaa’, owned by Said al Wahibi. ‘Dagash’, owned by Ali al Jedali, won the sixth race. In the seventh race, ‘Al Shamkha’, owned by the Royal Camel Corps, bagged the top place. ‘Mehnah’, owned by Saleh al Malki, won the eighth race. ‘Al Mokhtaber’, owned by Salim al Madhoshi, came first in the ninth race. The tenth race award was snatched by ‘Al Maha’, owned by the Royal Camel Corps. In the eleventh race, ‘Harba’, owned by Said al Hashmi, was the winner.


‘Al Shahenyah’, owned by Mohammed al Saeedi, came out on top in the last race.


The Oman Camel Racing Federation will hold the second event of the season from October 9 to 13 at the Royal Camel Corps in Barka; the event will be for camel beauty. The second race will be from October 18 to 20 in Barka and Al Bashayer.
