Celebrating cultural unity: 'Shusha - The Cradle of Culture of the East' shines in Muscat

In Muscat, a cultural extravaganza titled ‘Shusha - the Cradle of Culture of the East’ held in grandeur and harmony saw talented young musicians taking part. Spearheaded by Dr Saida Khalilova, the coordinator of the Coordinating Council of Azerbaijanis in Arab Countries for Oman, and supported by the esteemed State Committee for Work with Diaspora of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the event radiated cultural richness and cross-border camaraderie. The evening commenced with a profound moment of unity as the national anthems of the Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of Azerbaijan echoed through the venue.

Attendees were then greeted by a heartfelt message from Fuad Muradov, the chairman of the State Committee for Work with Diaspora, extending warm congratulations on the occasion of May 28th - Independence Day and the concert itself. Enthralling performances ensued, featuring talented students of Dr Saida Khalilova from the ‘Royal Conservatory of Music and Art,’ alongside teachers and representatives from diverse backgrounds. Works by eminent composers from Azerbaijan and beyond adorned the stage, captivating the audience’s hearts.

Notably, the Azerbaijani folk melodies and the enchanting rendition of ‘Yellow Bride’ by Indian performer Babita Syam, as well as Arif Malikov’s ballet ‘Legend of Love,’ left an indelible mark on the guests.


In her closing remarks, Dr Saida expressed heartfelt gratitude to the government of the Sultanate of Oman for their gracious hospitality in hosting such cultural exchanges. She also extended her appreciation to the President of Azerbaijan and the State Committee for Diaspora Affairs for their unwavering support.

Emphasising the significance of dedicating the event to Shusha, the pearl of Karabakh, Dr Saida highlighted its recent recognition as the ‘Cultural Capital of the Islamic World’ for 2024, a testament to the solidarity within the Islamic world as declared at the 12th Conference of Ministers of Culture of the Islamic World held in Doha in 2023. The event witnessed a diverse audience comprising members of the Azerbaijani community, local dignitaries, and esteemed foreign guests, totaling 300 attendees.

Throughout the evening, captivating videos showcasing Azerbaijan’s rich cultural heritage, tourism allure, artistic prowess, and historical marvels mesmerized the audience, sparking profound interest and admiration. As the event drew to a close, certificates of appreciation were bestowed upon the dedicated teachers and talented students of the Conservatory, followed by a poignant commemorative photo session, encapsulating the spirit of harmony and cultural exchange that defined the evening.
