OERF announces 86 events over eight sports

The Oman Equestrian and Racing Federation (OERF) announced its calendar of events, activities and competitions for the 2024-2025 season, with 86 competitions distributed across eight sports, including Olympic, international and local events. The season, which includes 20 horse races, will begin on October 18 in the Wilayat of Barka. Twenty-four show jumping competitions, 11 endurance races, 14 tent pegging championships, and five horseback archery championships will start on October 14 in Barka. Five events for traditional horse sports (Al Ardha running) and three horse beauty championships will commence on December 13 in the Wilayat of Suhar, in addition to four horse dressage competitions starting on November 11 in Barka.


The events are spread across five governorates and states of the Sultanate of Oman, focusing on the equestrian tracks at Al Rahba Farm in the Wilayat of Barka. Over the past few days, meetings have been held with owners and trainers to prepare for the season, discussing the latest preparations and equipment for the fields.


The OERF aims to elevate the level of equestrian activities and events to further develop equestrian sports in Oman. The federation anticipates a distinguished season full of strong competitions between owners, trainers and riders.

QUALIFYING RACES


Meanwhile, the season will officially begin on Wednesday with the federation's training competition for show jumping at the jumping field in the Wilayat of Barka, with heights of 70, 90, 100, 110, 120, and 130 cm, starting at 5 pm with the participation of more than 60 horses. Endurance races will commence with a qualifying race in two stages of 30 and 40 km on Thursday in Barka. The season will conclude with international endurance races for 100 km during the khareef season in the Wilayat of Salalah in August 2025.


On another note, the Oman national team for horseback archery recently participated in the fifth World Nomadic Games in the Republic of Kazakhstan, with 21 countries and over 100 riders competing. The event was organised by the Government of Kazakhstan in cooperation with the Organisation of Turkish States and the Traditional Sports Committee in Kazakhstan.
