Oman reports 3,939 deaths in 2023, circulatory diseases lead the toll

Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman recorded 3,939 deaths in 2023, with circulatory system diseases being the leading cause, according to the annual statistical report by the Ministry of Health (MoH).


Meanwhile, complications from pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum were the least frequent, with just four cases.


While the Royal Hospital saw the highest number of fatalities, al Wusta Governorate reported the fewest.


Infectious and parasitic diseases claimed 590 lives, respiratory diseases accounted for 622, and tumors caused 348 deaths.


According to the report, there are other significant causes behind those deaths including 128 from injuries and poisoning, 156 from congenital defects, and 228 deaths related to birth complications.
