

SALALAH: The Gulf Science Forum 2024 began on Sunday today at the Sultan Qaboos Youth Complex for Culture and Entertainment in Salalah, running until August 15.
Organised by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, through the General Directorate of Youth and aligned with the Youth Empowerment Committee’s 2024 action plan, the forum has garnered approval from their highnesses, excellencies, and the Ministers of Youth and Sports of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.
The forum aims to foster and solidify the culture of innovation as a vital component in the economies of the Gulf nations, contributing to societal advancement, addressing challenges, and promoting the exchange of ideas and experiences while spotlighting scientific talents.
Central to the forum is an exhibition featuring innovations and inventions by young innovators aged 18-25, covering six key sectors: food security, logistics, education, health, tourism, and energy. These sectors are aligned with four Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): clean and affordable energy, industry, innovation, infrastructure, decent work, economic growth, and partnerships to achieve these goals.
Under the patronage of Sayyid Saeed bin Sultan Al Busaidi, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Youth for Culture, the forum’s programme includes a dialogue session titled 'GCC Countries’ Trends in the Global Innovation Index: Reality and Hope,' presented by specialists from the participating countries.
The forum also features a hackathon competition named 'Sadeem' and organised visits to heritage, historical, and tourist sites in Dhofar Governorate. More than 60 participants from the GCC countries, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, and the Kingdom of Morocco are taking part in the forum, showcasing 38 innovative projects. - ONA
