Muscat: Oman national cricketer Sufyan Mahmood bagged the Filmfare Middle East Best Sports Influencer of the Year 2024 award after being nominated to the finals from among 500 sports persons of the Middle East at a glittering Filmfare function in Dubai recently.
The Filmfare Social Night at Palazzo Versace Hotel on July 23 was attended by several celebrities from the entertainment industry in the Middle East and India.
“We thank God, It was a great feeling to take the word among 500 participants. Just a few days back in Dubai, and now this is my second award for the best sport inference, it feels special to make history”.
The 33-year-old cricketer debuted for Oman in 2009 ACC tournament, won the prestigious social media award for the second time owing to his huge following in Instagram and Facebook.
“My strong social media fan following helped me get the award. There was a voting link and three judges were making the final decisions on the event day. On Instagram I have 1.4 million followers, 11,000 on Tiktok and 60,000 on Facebook” Sufyan told Oman Observer.
Sufyan thanked his company Renaissance and promoters Stargold for the support.
“My family and friends and the Oman Cricket fraternity led by Pankaj Khimji always supported me too,” the Omani cricketer added.
The all-rounder has also played in three T20 World Cups (India 2016, Oman 2021, US 2024) for Oman. The medium pacer helped his team Bausher Busters clinch the victory in the D50 Eliminator match at Oman Cricket Turf 1 at Oman Cricket Academy Stadium in Al Amerat on February 26.
