Muscat: The Ministry of Labour’s decision to implement a mandatory mid-day break for outdoor workers comes into effect from June 1.

The decision, aimed at protecting them from the extreme heat during the summer months, mandates that all work performed under direct sunlight must cease between 12:30 PM and 3:30 PM.

The Ministry's directive is part of an ongoing effort to ensure the health and safety of workers, particularly those in construction and other outdoor sectors. Employers are required to comply with this regulation and adjust their working hours accordingly. Non-compliance will result in penalties and fines of no less than RO 500 and no more than RO 1,000 for violators.

This annual initiative aligns with Oman’s commitment to labour rights and worker welfare, recognizing the dangers posed by high temperatures and aiming to reduce heat-related illnesses and incidents. The Ministry encourages workers to stay hydrated and take necessary precautions during the summer season.
