Muscat: House fires during summer and periods of high temperatures are a significant concern due to the increased causes associated with these conditions.

It is worth mentioning that soaring temperatures and the overuse of electrical devices contribute to the likelihood of fires.

Understanding the common causes and preventive measures is crucial for mitigating the risk of house fires during these times.

In this context, the Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority (CDAA) outlined precautionary measures if someone’s house caught fire.

The authority urged the dwellers to turn off the power and gas sources, and if possible, remove any inflammable materials.

Meanwhile, it is necessary to evacuate all the people from the house and assist the elderly, children, and individuals with special needs to leave quickly before the fire overwhelms the place.

Cover your mouth and nose with a wet towel in the case of thick smoke to avoid choking, the authority emphasised.

For those trapped by a house fire, utilizing any available firefighting equipment to extinguish the fire is strongly advised.

The authority calls on the public to have an emergency evacuation plan, which should be practiced .

They are also recommended to set a dedicated exit in case of fire.
