CAIRO: The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Council of Oman, participated in the 40th plenary session of the fourth session of the third legislative term of the Arab Parliament, which was held at the headquarters of the Secretariat-General of the League of Arab States in Cairo, on Saturday.
The session discussed the reports of the meetings of the standing and sub-committees related to following up on developments in the various political, security and social files in the Arab region. It also discussed the report of the Palestine Committee which comes in light of the special interest attached by the Arab Parliament to the Palestinian cause in light of the ongoing genocidal war in the Gaza Strip. Also discussed at the session were the reports of the Arab Parliament’s standing committees: the Foreign, Political and National Security Affairs Committee, the Economic and Financial Affairs Committee, the Legislative, Legal and Human Rights Affairs Committee and the Social Affairs Committee and Educational Committee.
The Sultanate of Oman’s delegation took part in the meetings of the preparatory committees for the plenary session, which discussed the political, security, social and legislative developments in the Arab region in a way that serves the protection of Arab interests and contributes to achieving stability, growth and integration in the Arab world. The committees also reviewed parliamentary visions for resolving the current crises as well as the draft laws currently being prepared by the Arab Parliament. The Legislative, Legal and Human Rights Affairs Committee discussed a number of files on the agenda including the joint meeting with the Chairman of the Arab Charter Committee on Human Rights, the report of the meeting of the joint committee concerned with supervising the preparation of the anti-bullying law in the Arab world, the second draft of the report on the situation of human rights in the Arab world for the year 2023, among others.
The session was held under the chairmanship of Adel bin Abdul Rahman Al Asoumi, Speaker of the Arab Parliament, and in the presence of representatives of the legislative councils and members of the Arab Parliament.
The Sultanate of Oman was represented by Shaikh Dr Talib bin Hilal al Hosni, member of the State Council; Sariyah bint Khalfan al Hadiyah, member of the State Council; and Humaid bin Ali al Nasiri, member of Majlis Ash’shura. — ONA
