If you can visit Al Mouj Muscat before the 11th of this month between 8-12 AM, be sure to explore the diverse artistic creations, including drawings, photography, and sculptures. Students have employed various techniques, including artificial intelligence and multimedia, in creating their artworks.

The "Identities" exhibition at Al Mouj Muscat showcased nearly ninety artworks created by students in grades one to seven from Sarh Al Jaameah Private School, which is affiliated with Sultan Qaboos University. Organized in collaboration with the Al Mouj Artist Group, this exhibition celebrates creativity, sparks imagination, and nurtures a sense of community among students. It highlights their diverse talents and individual perspectives, aiming to cultivate an appreciation for art.

"The title 'Identities' was chosen for our student art exhibition to reflect the rich diversity of identities within our school community. Through our artworks, we aim to showcase the multifaceted nature of identity, encompassing cultural, personal, and social dimensions. Each piece represents a unique perspective, allowing us to celebrate the richness and complexity of our collective identities," explained Sara Al Harrasi, the art teacher and co-organizer of the exhibition.

As Sara affirmed, each piece in this exhibition "offers a unique perspective on identity, contributing to a rich tapestry of narratives that illuminate the complexities and diversity of both individual and communal identities."

One particularly noteworthy project from grade 5 students, titled 'We Are Covered with Stories,' presents a collection of collage artwork featuring portraits layered with vintage novel pages. This symbolism reflects the depth and richness of human experiences and the narratives that shape our identities. The project underscores the notion that just as the portraits are adorned with stories, so too are we as individuals.

Another remarkable artwork comes from grade 7 students, who depicted jewelry designs blending traditional and contemporary elements. Through juxtaposing various jewelry pieces against backgrounds enhanced with coffee stains, watercolors, and charcoal, students delved into the intricate details of Omani culture while experimenting with diverse artistic techniques. These drawings not only capture the elegance of Omani jewelry but also signify the interplay between identity and heritage.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is beginning to leave its mark on the artistic scene in Oman, albeit gradually. Sara noted, "While AI tools offer new avenues for creativity and expression, their impact is still in its early stages. However, in the long run, AI holds the potential to significantly shape and enrich Oman's artistic landscape, equipping artists with innovative tools to expand the horizons of their craft and engage audiences in novel ways."

The exhibition received widespread acclaim, with many attendees expressing pride in their children's artworks. Ms. Fatima Obeidat, the ICT teacher, remarked, "It was fascinating to witness how AI, one of the most advanced technologies, was employed to capture the essence of Omani culture from our students' perspectives. Their integration of the new to showcase the old bodes well for Oman's future, safeguarding its identity."

The opening ceremony, held under the patronage of Areej Mohsen Haider Darwish, Chairperson of the ACERE cluster of Mohsin Haider Darwish, was attended by various dignitaries and social figures, as well as numerous Omani artists. Areej admired the diversity of artworks, each telling a unique story.
